Founding Principal Bryan Trubey was a driving force behind the creation of SoFi Stadium, an iconic destination where architecture, entertainment, and public space converge into a unified experience. The 300-acre campus unites SoFi Stadium, YouTube Theater, and American Airlines Plaza beneath a sweeping shared roof structure, creating a cohesive architectural identity across the development.

The design draws heavily from Southern California’s indoor-outdoor lifestyle and temperate climate. Natural ocean breezes informed the stadium’s open-air concept, allowing the venue to feel connected to its environment while reducing reliance on traditional mechanical cooling systems. The stadium draws inspiration – and economy – from these breezes, by being almost entirely open-air and naturally cooled. The resulting experience balances the scale of a world-class sports and entertainment venue with a sense of openness and comfort unique to the region.

A defining component of the campus is the 6,000-seat YouTube Theater, a three-story performance venue designed to accommodate concerts, esports, livestream productions, and a broad range of contemporary entertainment experiences.

Significant site constraints, including a nearby LAX runway approach path and an active fault line crossing the property, shaped the project’s engineering and architectural solutions. To preserve critical airspace, the stadium bowl was embedded nearly 100 feet into the ground, while the expansive canopy roof was engineered as a lightweight, low-profile structure clad in perforated metal and translucent ETFE panels. The roof’s structural system also contributes to the project’s seismic resilience. The now iconic roof provides a radical aerial branding opportunity to the millions of passengers who land at the airport.
